We nurture the things in our lives that ground us, tie us to earth. We claim our existence through love, art, children and relationships. It’s as close to poetry as we can physically get. We carry these close and dear to us for years, and as they raise our spirits, we raise theirs. Sacred Ties, directed by Lulu Yao Gioiello and Gary Bardizbanian, is centered around the idea of caregiving in its various forms and life stages. In this film, eight women reflect on their love, dedication and memories for their physical and metaphysical babies. In order of appearance: Ali Van, experimental performance artist Xin Ying, recent mother and principal dancer for Martha Graham Dance Company Aeri Yun, fashion stylist Gina Lee, NYC based DJ and model The Bokharis (Alvina, Iman, Maham, Mahvish) and a cat named Prince.
